Washington (USA), Jan 31 (LaPresse/AP) – Trump administration officials are moving to dismiss FBI agents involved in the investigation into the president in the coming days. This was reported by two people familiar with the plans. It is unclear how many agents may be affected. Officials under the administration's direction are working, the sources explained, to identify the agents who could be fired.Among the politically sensitive investigations involving Trump over the past four years are those into his attempts to overturn the outcome of the 2020 presidential election, his handling of classified documents, and hundreds of criminal prosecutions against the rioters who stormed the Capitol on 6 January 2021.A Justice Department spokesman declined to comment and an FBI spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The dismissals would represent a major blow to the historic independence of the country's premier federal law enforcement agency. The dismissals, sources say, would be carried out against the wishes of the acting director of the FBI, Brian Driscoll, who has reportedly expressed opposition to the idea.
