Turin, Jan 27 (LaPresse) – A senior official in the Hamas political bureau said that the organisation does not necessarily intend to govern the Gaza Strip after the war that began with Israel on 7 October 2023. In an interview with Saudi Al Arabiya channel Moussa Abu Marzouk explained that Hamas understands how, in the future, the governing body of the Strip will require both regional and international support, including that of Palestinian National Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. The official added that the organisation would be willing to negotiate the composition of the Strip's government with the US, as it believes President Donald Trump is ‘a serious president’ in light of the ceasefire and hostage release agreement that he and his Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, helped finalise. However, Abu Marzouk criticised Trump for recent comments suggesting emptying the enclave and transferring its population to Jordan and Egypt. ‘No Palestinian or Arab will accept Trump's idea about displacement,’ he warned. ‘It will not succeed.’
