Germany: Alarm at elementary school in Berlin, police intervene

Frankfurt (Germany), Jan 10 (LaPresse) – Alarm over a suspected attack at a school in Berlin. According to Bild, in the late afternoon, police were alerted to a suspected attack at the Alt-Schmargendorf elementary school in the Schmargendorf district, and a major operation is currently underway at the scene. The emergency call was made using two alarm systems at the school specifically designed for unexpected attacks. A police spokesperson confirmed that elementary school students were still inside the building despite the late hour and were hiding in classrooms. The school also hosts an after-school care center open until 6 p.m. A large police contingent, including riot officers specifically trained for such situations, is currently searching the building. Special Operations Police (Sek) units have also been called in. As a precaution, fire department units have been dispatched to the school and are ready to provide first aid if necessary.
