USA, Kremlin: "At the moment, no contact requests from Trump's team"

Rome, January 9 (LaPresse) – The team of U.S. President Donald Trump, winner of the elections, has not made any requests for contact with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

"No, there have been no requests. On the other hand, for obvious reasons, it would be more appropriate to wait until Trump takes office," he said.

Peskov also commented on the territorial claims over Greenland by the tycoon. "Russia considers peace and stability in the Arctic necessary. The Arctic zone falls within our national and strategic interests," emphasized the Kremlin spokesman.

Russia is closely monitoring Trump's claims regarding Canada and Greenland but believes the issue falls within the scope of Washington's bilateral relations with Ottawa and Copenhagen, Peskov said.

"Such claims are true; it is more a matter of the United States' bilateral relations with Denmark and other states. We are watching this rather dramatic development of the situation very carefully. So far, thank God, it is only at the level of statements," he added.
