Berlin (Germany), Dec. 31 (LaPresse) – German Chancellor Olaf Scholz urged the country’s 84 million residents to remain united despite numerous global crises and wars, economic challenges, and a deadly attack at the Magdeburg Christmas market. “We are not a country where people oppose one another or merely pass each other by,” Scholz said in his New Year’s address, set to air this evening. “We are a country that comes together. And we can draw strength from this, especially in difficult times like these. And these are difficult times; we all feel it.” “Strength comes from solidarity. And we are a country that stands united,” he added. “Together, we hold everything in our hands: we can make 2025 a good year.” “Our economy is struggling. Life has become more expensive,” Scholz acknowledged, while also conveying a sense of optimism: “We are 84 million people, only 1% of the world’s population! And yet, we are the third-largest economic power in the world. Because we are industrious.”
