Rome, 14 June (LaPresse) – Lewis Hamilton has won the Barcelona Grand Prix, the seventh round of the World Championship, securing his first career victory for Ferrari. A year and a half after joining the Maranello-based team, the British driver – fresh from two second-place finishes in Canada and Monte Carlo – finished ahead of George Russell’s Mercedes in second place, with Lando Norris’s McLaren in third. Kimi Antonelli was unlucky: with four laps to go, after overtaking his team-mate George Russell, he was forced to retire, likely due to a problem with the wing, which came loose during the overtaking manoeuvre. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc also retired, with just a few laps remaining. Verstappen finished fourth, followed by Piastri, Hadjar, Gasly, Colapinto, Lawson and Lindblad. The 41-year-old Hamilton, in his 31st race in “red”, had not won a Formula 1 Grand Prix for almost two years. His last victory dates back to 28 July 2024, when he won the Belgian Grand Prix at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, following the disqualification of his team-mate George Russell. Ferrari’s last victory, meanwhile, dates back to 27 October 2024, when Spaniard Carlos Sainz won the Mexican Grand Prix. The ‘Scuderia’ had not won in Barcelona since 2013 with Fernando Alonso. For Hamilton, this is his 106th career victory, his seventh in Barcelona, beating Michael Schumacher’s record. In the drivers’ championship, Hamilton closes the gap to Kimi Antonelli to -41 points and extends his lead over Russell to +7. Norris overtakes Piastri for 5th place. Colapinto moves up to 11th ahead of Bearman. In the constructors’ championship, Ferrari closes the gap to Mercedes to -72 points, whilst Alpine and Racing Bulls pick up points with both their drivers.
