Alcaraz continues his recovery: he is training without a face mask

Rome, 13 June (LaPresse) – Carlos Alcaraz’s recovery continues. The world number two, who was forced to miss the Mutua Madrid Open, the BNL Italian Open and Roland Garros, and then withdrew from the ATP 500 at Queen’s and Wimbledon, has returned to training without a brace on his right wrist, as shown in a short video posted on social media. In the video, he is seen training with fitness coach Alberto Lledó, and the absence of a brace on his right wrist appears to be positive news. His coach’s comments also suggest significant physical progress. “The weeks are flying by! I can’t keep up with you anymore,” Lledó wrote on Instagram. There is still little clarity regarding the exact nature of Alcaraz’s injury, having played his last match against Otto Virtanen in the first round of the ATP 500 in Barcelona in mid-April. Since then, in all his public appearances, Alcaraz had always worn a protective device: first a brace, which was also visible at the Laureus World Sports Awards ceremony, then in recent weeks a simple bandage. Now the Spaniard, who has already returned to training on court, is appearing without any protection, suggesting that his return to competition may be imminent. A seven-time Grand Slam champion, the Murcia-born player could be ready for the major hard-court tournaments in North America: the Masters 1000 events in Canada (starting 2 August) and Cincinnati (starting 13 August), and the US Open, broadcast live and free-to-air on SuperTennis, where he won the title last year by beating Jannik Sinner in the final. Despite his absence and the loss of over 3,000 ranking points, Alcaraz remains firmly the world number two, with a lead of more than 2,500 points over Alexander Zverev. But after Wimbledon, the picture could change.
