Roland Garros: Sinner takes to the sidelines, knocked out in five sets by Cerundolo in the second round

Milan, 28 May (LaPresse) – Once again, the heat proved to be the only opponent capable of defeating Jannik Sinner. The world number one and top seed suffered a shock exit in the second round of Roland Garros, the second Grand Slam event of the season, on the clay courts of Paris. Sinner was defeated in five sets by Argentina’s Juan Manuel Cerundolo, ranked 56th in the ATP rankings, who staged a comeback to win 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1 after 3 hours and 31 minutes of play. Sinner was leading by two sets and 5-1 in the third when he suddenly fell ill due to the extreme heat in Paris; from that moment on, there was nothing he could do, and an unrelenting struggle began that led to his defeat.
