The Italian athlete was carried off on a stretcher due to a problem with the biceps femoris muscle in his right thigh (the extent of which will be assessed on Monday upon his return to Italy, following initial examinations in China), which occurred during the flight phase of his fourth jump. The Fiamme Oro athlete from Rieti was third in the standings at the time of the injury, thanks to 8.28m on his third jump (0.1m) following an opening jump of 8.07m (-0.1m) and 8.13m on his second attempt (-0.2m).
