Rome, May 13 (LaPresse) – Igor Arrieta of UAE Team Emirates XRG won the fifth stage of the 2026 Giro d'Italia, the 203km Praia a Mare-Potenza. The Spaniard beat Portuguese Afonso Oliveira Eulalio (Bahrain Victorious) at the end of a dramatic finale. Day marked by rain and a long escape that started in the morning. So much emotion in the finale with the two fugitives both falling. The highlight -2 km from the finish when Arrieta took a wrong turn. The Spaniard was 10" behind Eulalio with 1500 metres to go. At the slightly uphill finish he climbed back up at double speed, overtaking the Portuguese who, however, can smile given that he is the new Pink shirt and the new White Conad shirt. Giulio Ciccone's group, in fact, reached the finish line with a significant delay.
