Milan, 4 May (LaPresse) – It’s a record-breaking Monday for Italian men’s tennis. A Monday that has us dreaming of great things ahead of the 2026 BNL Italian Open. Jannik Sinner, world number one, is the third player to surpass 14,000 points in the ATP rankings. Flavio Cobolli, thanks to his quarter-final run in Madrid, has achieved a new career-high ranking of number 12, equalling Paolo Bertolucci in seventh place among the highest-ranked Italians in the Open era. Furthermore, with Luciano Darderi’s rise to number 20, Italy once again has four players in the world’s top 20, as was the case for the first time in history on 16 March. Sinner, who is chasing his first career title at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, has extended his lead over Carlos Alcaraz, who was forced to miss the Masters 1000 in Rome and Roland Garros, where he triumphed in 2025. After Madrid, the Italian has reached 14,350 points, the third-highest total for a player in the ATP rankings. The record holder is Novak Djokovic, the only player to have surpassed 16,000 points, at the height of a 2016 season in which he dominated the circuit right up to Roland Garros. Here is this week’s ATP top ten: 1 (=0). J. Sinner (ITA) 14,350; 2 (=0). C. Alcaraz (ESP); 3 (=0). A. Zverev (GER) 5,805; 4 (=0). N. Djokovic (SRB) 4,700; 5 (=0). F.
