Turin, 14 April (LaPresse) – Lorenzo Sonego and Lorenzo Musetti have made a winning start at the “Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell”, an ATP 500 tournament currently being played on the clay courts of the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona-1899. The 30-year-old from Turin, ranked 66th, returning to the tour after a break of almost three months due to a problem with his right wrist, defeated, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, after a battle lasting over two and a half hours, the Spaniard Pedro Martinez, ranked 125th, who had come through the qualifiers and had beaten him, also in three sets, in the first round of the Monte Carlo 1000 last year. In the second round, Sonego will face either the Russian Andrey Rublev, ranked 15th and the fifth seed, or the Argentine Mariano Navone, ranked 44th. It was also a winning debut for Lorenzo Musetti, ranked No. 9 and the second seed, who won 7-5, 6-2 against fellow Spaniard Martin Landaluce, ranked No. 101 in the ATP rankings, who was in the draw thanks to a wild card. His next opponent will be France’s Corentin Moutet (No. 31), whom he has already beaten in their only two previous encounters last year.
