Athletics, Middle East conflict: Diamond League in Qatar postponed to June

Milan, April 8 (LaPresse) – The war in the Middle East continues to disrupt international sports calendars. The Diamond League athletics meeting in Qatar, originally scheduled for next month, has been postponed to June 19, conditions permitting, due to ongoing uncertainty caused by the conflict. The Doha meeting was supposed to open the elite circuit season on May 8, as has been customary in recent years, but the postponement means that the Shanghai meeting, scheduled for May 16, will now start the series. The Diamond League stated that the decision was made “in the interest of athlete and spectator safety.” The announcement came just hours after the declaration of a two-week ceasefire between Iran, the United States, and Israel.
