Cortina d'Ampezzo (Belluno), 19 February (LaPresse) – A couple symbolic of Team Italy will lead the Italian flag in the closing ceremony of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, scheduled for Sunday evening at the Arena di Verona. Olympic champions Lisa Vittozzi and Davide Ghiotto have been chosen as the Italian flag bearers for the final act of this five-ring event, which brings down the curtain on an edition that has rightfully entered the history of Italian sport. The biathlete from Friuli, protagonist of a top-level Olympics crowned with the first individual Olympic gold medal in the history of Italian biathlon (in the pursuit) and silver in the mixed relay, has confirmed herself, with talent and determination, one of the great international performers in the discipline, a symbol of resilience after the injury that caused her to miss the entire 2024/2025 season. Alongside her will be Davide Ghiotto, a speed skating star and key member of the Italian trio that won another historic gold medal in the team pursuit. The Vicenza native, together with Andrea Giovannini and Michele Malfatti, was able to bring Italy back to the top of the sport, 20 years after the last home victory in Turin in 2006.
