The Italian, ranked 22nd in the world, defeated Argentina's Sebastian Baez (ATP No. 34) in the semi-finals on his 24th birthday with a score of 7-6 (7-2), 6-1. In the final, Darderi will face fellow Argentine Francisco Cerundolo, the number 1 seed, who defeated his compatriot Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-3, 7-5. It will be their fifth head-to-head match, all on clay: the score so far is 2-2. According to projections, thanks to reaching the final in Buenos Aires, the Italian will climb to number 21 in the ATP rankings. If he wins the title, he will make his debut in the Top 20 on Monday.
