Milan-Cortina: cross-country skiing, Italy wins bronze in the men's relay

Trento, 15 February (LaPresse) – After a 20-year drought, Italy's cross-country skiing team returns to the podium, winning the bronze medal in the men's 4×7.5 relay on the Olympic circuit at Lake Tesero. Gold went to Norway, which pulled away immediately after the second classic technique leg. Silver went to France. Italy built its victory from the very beginning with a strong start by Davide Graz, who remained close behind the powerful Norwegians even on the Vasche climb, the most challenging part of the course, gradually fending off attacks from the United States and Sweden. At the changeover, Elia Barp started in third position and managed to hold off his opponents. It was then up to Martino Carollo, with an extraordinary display of physical endurance, to give veteran Federico Pellegrino the chance to reach the podium. The Italian veteran, competing for his third Olympic medal and in his last Winter Games, performed a miracle: first catching up with Finland despite a 21-second gap, then overtaking them on the climb 400 metres from the finish line amid a sea of Italian flags.
