Milan–Cortina, head of security for U.S. athletes: “No ICE agents with us”

Milan, Feb. 5 (LaPresse) – “I can say with certainty that there are no ICE agents who are part of the Team USA delegation here in Milan. There is a lot of misinformation and speculation. This inaccuracy according to which ICE is here to ensure the security of the Games (on behalf of Team USA) is false, so I am happy to clarify that ICE is not part of the U.S. delegation.” This was stated by Nicole Deal, Head of Security and Athlete Services for the United States, regarding the possible presence of agents from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Milan for the Games. On the possibility that the U.S. government may have sent ICE agents independent of Team USA, “I cannot speak on behalf of the State Department or the U.S. embassy,” she replied during a press conference at the Main Media Center in Milan. On the security of U.S. athletes in Milan: “Our top priority is to ensure that Team USA athletes are safe, feel supported, and have a truly positive Olympic experience. The athletes feel safe and confident, and we are looking forward to tomorrow’s (Friday) Opening Ceremony,” she concluded.
