Milan, 2 February (LaPresse/Ap) – The Japanese Olympic Committee has set up a task force to combat online abuse during the Milan-Cortina Games. The initiative was launched after athletes received insults on social media during the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. The committee aims to prevent athletes from seeing the abuse by removing it as quickly as possible. On Monday, Japanese Chef de Mission Hidehito Ito said experts would monitor posts and request their deletion if necessary. The team includes 22 staff members and lawyers in Japan and Milan, so they can monitor social media 24 hours a day. This initiative follows Japan's growing efforts against online abuse after the suicide of wrestler and reality TV star Hana Kimura in 2020.
