Melbourne, Jan 25 (LaPresse) – World No. 1 in the WTA rankings Aryna Sabalenka has secured a place in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Australian Open in Melbourne, defeating rising Canadian star Victoria Mboko 6-1, 7-6. In the next round, the Belarusian will face another rising star of women’s tennis, American Iva Jovic, who, after eliminating Jasmine Paolini in the third round, defeated Kazakh Yulia Putintseva 6-0, 6-1. Victory and a quarterfinal spot also went to Coco Gauff, who beat Czech Karolina Muchova 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. The last to qualify was Elina Svitolina. The 31-year-old Ukrainian eliminated Russian Mirra Andreeva 6-2, 6-4.
