Milan, Jan. 19 (LaPresse) – Japan will be Italy’s opponent in the preliminary round of the 2026 Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge, scheduled for Friday, April 10, and Saturday, April 11, 2026 (live free on SuperTennis and SuperTenniX). The Italian team, led by Tathiana Garbin and reigning champions (having triumphed both in 2024 in Malaga and in 2025 in Shenzhen), will play at home. This was the outcome of the draw held today at the ITF offices in London. There is only one previous encounter between the two teams, won by Italy (2-1) in the quarterfinals of the BJK Cup Finals in Malaga in 2024, when, after Cocciaretto’s three-set loss to Shibahara, Paolini won in two sets against Uchijima, and the doubles team Errani/Paolini defeated Aoyama/Hozumi, also in two sets.
