Milan, 19 Jan. (LaPresse) – ‘It's not Vini's fault that we're not playing as well as we'd like. The whole team is to blame.’ That's how Kylian Mbappé criticised Real Madrid fans for targeting Vinícius Júnior and booing the star striker in Saturday's league match. Mbappé said fans have the right to boo when they are unhappy, but they should criticise the whole team and not specific players. ‘I understand the fans,’ Mbappé said on Monday ahead of Tuesday's Champions League match against Monaco. "Before I was a player, I was a boy who watched football, criticised and expressed his opinion. I completely understand the boos, but if they have to do it, they should boo the whole team, not just a few players. We are all playing badly," said the French star. On Saturday, the crowd at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium booed loudly when Vinícius' name was announced before the match against Levante, and again almost every time the Brazilian striker touched the ball. ‘That's the only thing I have to say to the fans. Boo the whole team. We have to turn this situation around. It's everyone's fault. We'll do it because we're Real Madrid players and there are always moments like this,’ he said. Mbappé said Vinícius was affected by the boos and that the whole team had to try to support him. ‘Vini is a human being,’ said Mbappé. ‘It's normal to be affected when people speak badly about you. Sometimes it's fair, sometimes it's not. Vini is a fantastic player. He's an incredible man. I'm lucky to know him and I love him very much. As a team, we have to protect him better so that he doesn't find himself in this position of loneliness against everyone,’ he concluded.
