Belgrade, Jan 17 (LaPresse) – Beating Georgia 16-14, Settebello starts the second phase of the European Water Polo Championship with another victory, their ninth consecutive win since December 20 in Budapest, when they defeated Hungary 15-14 in the first test match of this new cycle. At the Belgrade Arena, Alessandro Campagna’s Settebello was led by a superb Lorenzo Bruni. The 31-year-old center forward from Prato scored five goals.
They now prepare to face two already decisive matches: against Greece on Monday, Jan 19, and Croatia on Wednesday, Jan 21, which will determine qualification for the semifinals. The first match against Greece will take place in 48 hours; Greece won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Singapore on July 24, 2025 (16-7 against Serbia), finished fifth at the European Championship in Zagreb on Jan 14, 2024 (again 12-10 against Serbia), and fifth at the Paris Olympic Games on Aug 11, 2024 (15-13 against Spain). Kick-off at 6 PM.
