Liverpool (UK), Sept 18 (LaPresse) – A tough night for Diego Pablo Simeone: his Atletico Madrid lost in the dying moments of their Champions League match against Liverpool at Anfield (3-2 to the Reds), and he was sent off by referee Mariani following a brawl after the game. The coach tried to justify his reaction, saying he responded to provocations from Liverpool fans after Virgil van Dijk’s 92nd-minute goal that decided the match. The goal was followed by a massive fight involving stewards and members of Atletico’s technical staff. Simeone said he was "insulted throughout the match" and reacted because "I am a human being." However, he did not disclose the nature of the insults: "I won’t go into details about the exact nature of the insults. I don’t want to enter into that discussion," he said briefly. "I must stay in my place. I know what happens behind the coach’s bench. I cannot solve the club’s problems in a single press conference. I have to live with them because they are always there," he concluded.
