Milan, 15 September (LaPresse) – Another medal, the fourth, for Italy at the World Championships in Tokyo. In the marathon, Iliass Aouani took a wonderful bronze medal at the end of a tactical race conducted in an exemplary manner by the Italian, with a time of 2h09:53. It is the crowning achievement of a fantastic season for the Milanese athlete, the reigning European champion who triumphed in April in the first edition of the European Road Running Championships in Leuven, Belgium, and now also manages to climb onto the world podium. Tanzanian Alphonce Simbu won in a photo finish with a breathtaking sprint, overtaking Germany's Amanal Petros, who was in the lead as they entered the stadium (2:09:48 for both), in a trio that also included the Italian. Italian record holder Yohanes Chiappinelli was also among the best, finishing sixth in 2:10:15, while Yeman Crippa stopped at the 32nd kilometre.
