Turin, 9 September (LaPresse) – Egan Bernal won stage 16 of the Vuelta a España, the stage from Poio to Mos.Castro de Herville, which was neutralised 8 km from the finish line for safety reasons due to a pro-Palestinian protest along the route. The Colombian from Ineos Grenadiers beat Mikel Landa (Soudal Quick-Step) in a tight sprint. The two made the difference compared to their other breakaway companions, with third place going to Frenchman Brieuc Rolland of Groupama-FDJ, seven seconds behind the Colombian. The group of favourites allowed the breakaway to pull away and finished 5'52" behind the winner. There was no change in the general classification: Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) leads Joao Almeida (UAE Team Emirates) by 48‘ and Tom Pidcock (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team) by 2'38’. Tomorrow's stage 17 is a 143 km mountain stage from O Barco de Valdeorras to Alto de El Morredero.
