Rome, Aug. 28 (LaPresse) – Chris Froome suffered a serious accident this Wednesday during a training session. The British rider was hit by a car near Saint-Raphael and was then airlifted to Toulon hospital, according to L’Equipe.

Preliminary medical exams revealed a pneumothorax, fractures to five ribs, and one of his lumbar vertebrae. The four-time Tour de France winner (2013, 2015, 2016, 2017) remained conscious and was able to speak with his entourage.

Froome, who has been with the Israel-PremierTech team since 2021, is currently without a contract and has not won since 2018 (Giro d’Italia), never fully regaining his form after a previous serious crash that fractured his femur. In fact, six years ago, Froome suffered a severe accident at the Critérium du Dauphiné (June 2019).
