(LaPresse) – At the US Open, Jasmine Paolini began her 24th Slam by defeating Australian qualifier Destanee Aiava 6-2, 7-6(4), who was defeated in the first round last year in her only previous appearance in the US Open main draw. Paolini will face Aliaksandra Sasnovich (119) in the second round, a Belarusian playing as a neutral athlete who has never gone beyond the second round at the US Open, or 17-year-old American Iva Jovic (73), who made her Slam debut at the US Open last year and reached the second round.
