In recent years, there has often been criticism of excessive delays between the referee and VAR. Yesterday, however, VAR was ready and attentive, and everything happened smoothly and quickly. The announcement was reduced to a simple sentence, without interruptions, and had the merit of removing any doubts from the minds of the fans, informing them precisely. It was an interesting start. I hope it continues like this even in more complex situations." This was how former referee and referee designator Paolo Casarin commented on Radio Anch'io Sport on Rai Radio 1 on the first historic explanation given by a referee in a stadium for a decision taken with VAR. The protagonist was Gianluca Manganiello, referee of the Como-Lazio match, who announced to the Sinigaglia crowd the cancellation of Castellanos' goal for offside.
