Rome, Aug. 12 (LaPresse/AP) – Monica Seles, member of the Tennis Hall of Fame, has spoken for the first time about her myasthenia gravis, a neurological autoimmune disease diagnosed in 2022. Seles said she discovered she had this condition, known as MG, after experiencing symptoms such as double vision and weakness in her arms and legs. The former world number one, winner of nine Grand Slam titles, decided to address the issue ahead of the upcoming US Open. Speaking to the Associated Press, the former champion said she first noticed symptoms of the disease while holding a racket. “I was playing with some kids or family members and would miss a ball. I thought: ‘I see two of them.’ These are obviously symptoms you can’t ignore,” Seles said. “That’s when this journey began. And it took me a while to really process it, to talk about it openly, because it’s a difficult thing. It affects my daily life quite a bit.” The actual diagnosis came three years ago.
