Turin, August 5 (LaPresse) – Two Italian players are competing in the qualifying rounds of the 'Cincinnati Open', the seventh ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the season, featuring a prize pool of $9,193,540 and played on the hard courts of the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Ohio (combined with a WTA 1000 event).
Luca Nardi, world No. 97 and sixth seed in the qualifiers, will face American Aidan Mayo, ranked No. 285, in his opening match. Mayo received a wild card and was previously defeated by Nardi in the first round of the 2023 Winnipeg Challenger. Should Nardi win, the 21-year-old from Pesaro will play for a spot in the main draw against the winner of the match between Russia’s Alibek Kachmazov (No. 179 ATP) and Belgium’s Alexander Blockx (No. 121 ATP, 18th seed).

Matteo Gigante, ranked No. 125 ATP and seeded 21st, will take on another American, Patrick Kypson (No. 213 ATP), also a wild card. The 23-year-old from Rome has never faced Kypson before. The winner will then face either Australia’s Aleksandar Vukic (No. 99 ATP, 7th seed) or American wild card Murphy Cassone (No. 175 ATP) for a place in the main draw.
