Montreal, August 4 (LaPresse) – Iga Swiatek was eliminated in the round of 16 at the National Bank Open (WTA 1000 – prize money $5,152,599) on the hard courts of Montreal, Canada. In the early hours in Italy, the 24-year-old Warsaw native, ranked No. 3 and second seed, returning to the tour after her Wimbledon triumph, lost 7-6 (1), 6-3 after nearly two hours of battle to Danish player Clara Tauson, ranked No. 19 WTA and seeded 16th.
The 22-year-old from Gentofte will face American Madison Keys, ranked No. 8 and sixth seed, in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
