Milan, 1 August. (LaPresse) – Matteo Materazzi, well-known football agent and brother of Marco, former Inter defender and 2006 World Cup winner with Italy, has contracted “a rare form of ALS”. The announcement was made in an Instagram post by his wife, Maura Soldati, who has launched a fundraiser on the “gofundme” platform. ‘Many of you may not yet be aware that my husband, Matteo Materazzi, was diagnosed with a rare form of ALS in September 2024. At the moment, Matteo can no longer walk and can only move his hands, and he is starting to have difficulty breathing,’ Soldati wrote. ‘This disease leaves little hope, but there is a small light on the horizon. An experimental treatment made in the USA, which, however, is very expensive, as it is a therapy that would have to be tailored to him, but which in the future could help all those who have the same mutation as him. We are doing everything we can, but with your help it will be easier. Please donate if you can,’ she concluded.
