Rome, July 31 (LaPresse) – Eighteen-year-old Sara Curtis has qualified for the 100-meter freestyle final at the World Swimming Championships in Singapore. The Italian swimmer placed fourth in the semifinals with a time of 53.39, behind Australia’s Mollie O’Callaghan (first with 52.82), China’s Yujie Cheng (53.34), and France’s Beryl Gastaldello.
Sara Curtis is the first Italian to reach a world final in this event.
“I didn’t think I could make the final; any lane is fine,” Sara told Sky Sport after qualifying. “On the first day I went out too fast; today I didn’t look left or right, I just focused on the last 25 meters,” added the 18-year-old.
