Milan, July 29 (LaPresse) – Heat, wind, and even a lower back problem. With a strong display of character, Lucia Bronzetti overcame the first round at the WTA 1000 in Montreal, Canada, with a prize money pool of $5,152,599. The 26-year-old from Villa Verucchio, ranked 66th in the WTA and placed in the lower half of the draw with Iga Swiatek, came back to defeat American Elizabeth Mandlik, ranked 205th and in the draw thanks to a wild card, 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-2 after nearly two and a half hours of battle. After losing the first set, Lucia found herself down 4-1 in the second set (with two breaks) before turning the match around, winning 16 of the last 19 points.
