Milan, July 1 (LaPresse) – A bitter first round for Giulio Zeppieri at Wimbledon, as he suffered his third loss in four career five-set matches. The left-hander from Latina had taken the first two sets yesterday but gradually lost effectiveness on his early strokes.
Despite this, he managed to earn two break points in the seventh game, but a netted return and a strong first serve from his opponent kept the Japanese player ahead.
Trailing 4-5, Zeppieri held his nerve despite two deep returns on the lines, but couldn't stop the comeback. A winning return sealed the turnaround.
Japan’s Shintaro Mochizuki won 2-6, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(6), 7-5 and advanced to the second round.
