Seattle, June 26 (LaPresse) – Inter secured a 2-0 victory over River Plate and qualified for the second round of the Club World Cup. Nineteen-year-old forward Francesco Pio Esposito scored in the 72nd minute, just after Lucas Martínez Quarta of River Plate was sent off. Alessandro Bastoni sealed the win with a long-range goal during injury time. Earlier, Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer made a crucial save that denied River Plate the lead. Inter finished top of Group E with seven points, two more than Monterrey, who are second after their 4-0 win over Urawa Red Diamonds on Wednesday evening. River Plate finished third with four points. This was Esposito’s first goal for Inter after providing the assist for the winning goal in the 2-1 victory over Urawa Red Diamonds on Saturday. Inter will now face Fluminense on Monday in the next round, while Monterrey will meet Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.
