Milan, June 23 (LaPresse) – Thanks to his title win at Queen’s, Carlos Alcaraz has narrowed the gap to Jannik Sinner to 1,130 points. Sinner was defeated by Alexander Bublik in the Round of 16 in Halle, marking the first tournament since Paris-Bercy 2023 in which he failed to reach at least the quarterfinals. The Italian will begin Wimbledon next week with 10,430 points and the certainty of remaining world No. 1 regardless of the outcome of the third Slam of the season.

At Wimbledon, Sinner will lose 400 points from last year, meaning his post-tournament total will be 10,030 points plus any new points earned during this edition. The South Tyrolean, who has a record of 59 wins and 6 losses as world No. 1, could reach a maximum of 12,030 points if he wins his second Slam title of the season. Even in the worst-case scenario—an early first-round exit—Sinner’s top ranking would not be in immediate danger.

Alcaraz enters Wimbledon with 9,300 points and, as defending champion, cannot gain additional points from the tournament.

In this week’s rankings, which will be used for the Wimbledon draw, Italy has four players in the Top 40 who will be seeded: in addition to Sinner, there are Lorenzo Musetti (No. 7), Flavio Cobolli (No. 24), and Matteo Berrettini (No. 35). A total of ten Italian players have earned direct entry into the main draw, including Fabio Fognini, who made it in following the withdrawals of Arthur Fils and Casper Ruud.
