Club World Cup: Manchester City overwhelms Al-Ain, England and Juventus advance to the round of 16

Milan, June 23 (LaPresse) – Ilkay Gündogan scored twice, Erling Haaland converted a penalty, and Manchester City secured a place in the Round of 16 of the Club World Cup with a 6-0 win over Al Ain on Sunday evening.

Claudio Echeverri, Oscar Bobb, and Rayan Cherki also scored for City, who are looking to cap off a disappointing season with a strong showing in the tournament.

The result puts both the English side and Juventus — both with a 2-0-0 record — through to the Round of 16 from Group G. Al Ain has been eliminated, having also lost 5-0 to Juventus in their opening match.

Manchester City are the reigning Club World Cup champions, having won the title in 2023 under the previous seven-team format. Guardiola’s side will face Juventus on Thursday in Orlando to determine who tops the group. A draw would be enough for Juventus, as they have scored more goals with goal difference currently equal.
