Milan, June 19 (LaPresse) – Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova has announced her retirement from professional tennis after the US Open. The announcement was made on social media a day after Kvitova was granted a wild card for Wimbledon.
“I’m emotional and can’t wait to soak in the beauty of playing the Championships once more — Wimbledon, a place that holds the dearest memories of my career,” wrote the Czech player. Kvitova added: “Although I’m not yet entirely sure what my U.S. hard court swing will look like, I plan to end my active career at the US Open in New York later this summer.”
