ATP Halle, Sinner knocked out in the round of 16 by Bublik

Milan, June 19 (LaPresse) – Jannik Sinner's run at the 'Terra Wortmann Open', an ATP 500 tournament with a total prize pool of €2,522,220 on the grass courts of the OWL Arena in Halle, Germany, came to an end in the round of 16. The Italian, world number 1 and top seed, and reigning champion on German grass, was surprisingly defeated by Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik, ranked No. 45 ATP, with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in 2 hours and 2 minutes.

Sinner appeared somewhat flat and at times irritated by Bublik’s behavior, who had recently lost to him at Roland Garros and is known for his unpredictable antics. The South Tyrolean was making his return to competition after the dramatic Roland Garros final loss to Carlos Alcaraz, where he squandered a two-set lead and three match points. Having just completed his 54th week as world number one, Sinner will now head to London to begin preparations for Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the year, where he reached the quarterfinals last season before falling to Daniil Medvedev.
