’s-Hertogenbosch, June 13 (LaPresse) – Elisabetta Cocciaretto has reached the semifinals – for the first time this year – at the Libema Open (WTA 250, prize money €239,212), which is nearing its final stages on the Dutch grass courts of ’s-Hertogenbosch and marks the beginning of the women’s main tour grass season.
In the quarterfinals, the 24-year-old Italian from Fermo, ranked No. 123 WTA, defeated Dutch player Suzan Lamens, world No. 72, 6–2, 7–6(4), in just over an hour and a half. Cocciaretto put over 65% of first serves in, winning nearly 67% of those points, added a 59% success rate on second serves, and converted 5 of 6 break points. She closed the match with 20 winners against 17 unforced errors (her opponent had a 13–29 winners-to-errors ratio).
In Saturday’s semifinal, Cocciaretto will face either Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse (No. 80 WTA, who came through qualifying) or Canadian Bianca Andreescu (No. 118 WTA, in the draw as a wild card).
Cocciaretto – who earlier defeated Dutch wild card Arianne Hartono (No. 177), American left-hander Bernarda Pera (No. 79), and now Lamens – is climbing back toward the top 100 thanks to the ranking points earned so far (currently projected No. 103 WTA).
