Warsaw (Poland), June 12 (LaPresse) – Poland’s head coach Michal Probierz has resigned, just days after a dispute with Robert Lewandowski, from whom he had stripped the captain’s armband ahead of the World Cup qualifying match against Finland, giving it instead to Inter Milan midfielder Piotr Zielinski.
"I have come to the conclusion that, given the current situation, the best decision for the good of the national team is for me to resign from my position as head coach," Probierz said in a statement released by the Polish Football Association.
Lewandowski had reacted to the coach’s decision by stating he would no longer play for the national team as long as Probierz remained in charge.
