Turin, June 11 (LaPresse) – Remco Evenepoel made a strong statement at the Critérium du Dauphiné. The Soudal Quick-Step rider won the fourth stage, a 17.4 km time trial from Charmes-sur-Rhône to Saint-Péray, and jumped to the top of the general classification. The Belgian cyclist beat the Visma-Lease a Bike duo of Jonas Vingegaard, who finished 21 seconds behind, and Matteo Jorgenson, 38 seconds back. Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) came in fourth, 49 seconds off the winner. In the overall standings, Evenepoel now leads Florian Lipowitz (Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe), who finished fifth in the time trial, by 4 seconds, and Spain’s Ivan Romeo (Movistar Team), yesterday’s solo stage winner, by 9 seconds. Vingegaard trails by 16 seconds, and Pogacar by 38. Tomorrow’s fifth stage covers 183 km from Saint-Priest to Mâcon and is suited to long-range breakaways.
