Turin, June 3 (LaPresse) – And suddenly, King Carlo has become Carlinho. “They’ve nicknamed me that, and I like it,” Carlo Ancelotti admitted to Donatella Scarnati just days before his debut as head coach of the Brazilian national team.
In a long interview – available on Vivo Azzurro TV – the only manager to have won league titles in all five major European leagues (Italy, England, France, Germany, and Spain), and the only one to have lifted the Champions League five times, recounts his thrilling career, starting from his recent journey from Madrid to Rio de Janeiro:
“Now a new adventure begins. It’s a big responsibility, but also a great joy to have the chance to coach the Brazilian national team. I was welcomed with great affection, and I hope to prepare the team well and make it competitive for the next World Cup.”
Learning a new language won’t be a problem: “I’ll have to study Portuguese like I studied French, English, and Spanish. It helps that Portuguese has the same grammar.”
“I get emotional quite easily,” he revealed. “Tears come easily to me, and I’m not ashamed of it.”
“Victory is fleeting: you celebrate and move on. Defeat is the same—there’s disappointment and sadness—but football always gives you a chance to look forward,” Ancelotti explained. “I take everything with me, both wins and losses. Defeats give you a chance to improve.”
A life constantly on the move, but coming home is priceless: “Returning to Reggiolo gives me energy; it keeps alive the memories of a beautiful youth. At home, we never argued; there was harmony. The only thing we lacked was money, but we never talked about money.”
