Rome, May 29 (LaPresse) – Gregorio Paltrinieri has won the gold medal in the 5 km race at the Open Water European Championships in Stari Grad, on the Croatian island of Hvar. The Italian swimmer finished with a time of 52:05.79. Behind him were the Hungarians David Bethlem – Olympic bronze medalist and defending champion – who took silver with 52:08.07, and Olympic champion Kristof Rasovzsky, who had won gold in the 10 km race the day before, finishing third in 52:13.57.
