Turin, 21 May (LaPresse) – Richard Carapaz won the 11th stage of the Giro d'Italia, the 186 km Apennine stage from Viareggio to Castelnovo ne' Monti. The EF Education-EasyPost captain attacked on the final climb of the day, the Pietra di Bismantova, a second category GPM, just as the group of favourites caught up with the day's escapees (with Lorenzo Fortunato increasingly leading the climbers' classification), leaving his other rivals for the overall classification behind. Isaac Del Toro (UAE Team Emirates), second at 10" behind the winner, remains in the pink jersey after beating the other contenders in the sprint. Third place went to Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek), with Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain-Victorious) also doing well, finishing sixth. Diego Ulissi (XDS Astana Team) also finished in the top ten. This is Carapaz's fourth career victory on the roads of the Giro and his 24th overall as a professional.
