Serie A, Simonelli: “Scudetto match schedule? A difficult decision, the Board will make a synthesis”

Turin, May 19 (LaPresse) – “Thursday or Friday for the two Scudetto-deciding matches? It will be a tough decision, because on one hand, we’d like to give fans the joy of seeing their teams win on a holiday. On the other hand, in case of a playoff—which is unlikely—we must ensure that Inter has enough rest ahead of the Champions League final. It’s in the interest of all Italian football that they can aim to win the tournament. Inter would prefer to play on Thursday or Friday, and Napoli during the weekend? That’s the starting point, and it will be up to the Board to find a compromise,” said Serie A president Ezio Maria Simonelli during an interview with 'Radio Anch'io Sport' on Rai Radio1, regarding the scheduling of Como-Inter and Napoli-Cagliari, the matches on the final day of the season that will decide the Scudetto. “I cannot give any previews on what the Board will decide. It’s not my decision alone, but a collective one. We have two free matches: Milan-Monza and Bologna-Genoa, which we can schedule freely,” he added. “In addition to the two Scudetto matches, we’ll have a block of six matches concerning European qualification and relegation. Overall, there will be 3 or 4 scheduling blocks.” As for the venue of a potential Scudetto playoff, Simonelli clarified: “According to regulations, it should be played in Milan, but that obviously isn’t possible. Rome would be the only feasible option.”
