Rome, May 18 (LaPresse) – Isaac del Toro (UAE Team Emirates XRG) crossed the finish line second in stage nine of the Giro d’Italia – 181 km with 2,500 meters of elevation gain – becoming the first Mexican ever to wear the pink jersey. However, the stage victory went to Wout van Aert (Team Visma–Lease a Bike), who pulled ahead in the final sprint, overcoming early struggles in the race. Among the Italians, Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek) finished third and Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain Victorious) came in sixth.
