Internazionali Roma: Sinner reaches the round of 16, defeating De Jong in two sets

Rome, 12 May (LaPresse) – The ‘second’ was also good. After breaking the ice last Saturday against Argentine Mariano Navone, Jannik Sinner, fresh from a three-month suspension for doping, continues his march at the Internazionali and advances to the round of 16. The Italian defeated Dutch player Jesper De Jong, ranked 93rd, in two sets with a score of 6-4, 6-2 in just over an hour and a half. Sinner gradually raised his level as the game progressed after a few too many errors at the start. He broke serve in the third game, the Dutchman broke back in the fifth, but Sinner immediately responded by breaking his opponent's serve again and closing out the set 6-4. In the second set, the Dutchman lost his serve in the third game and was forced to seek medical attention in the fourth after a slip caused him a problem with his right wrist. He resumed play but his physical condition was not optimal, and Sinner broke serve again to close out the set and match 6-2. The number one seed will face Argentine Francisco Cerundolo, ranked 18th in the ATP rankings, who defeated Austrian Sebastian Ofner in two sets.
