Mexico City (Mexico), May 1 (LaPresse) – The Mexico City Grand Prix will remain on the Formula 1 calendar at least until the 2028 season, following the announcement of a three-year contract renewal. The city’s mayor stated that negotiations are ongoing for an even longer agreement. With the contract for the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit expiring at the end of this season, organizers and local authorities had to come to an agreement. "This contract does not mean it’s the end, we needed to secure those dates, but at the beginning of next year, we will have good news regarding the continuation of this wonderful event for the coming years in Mexico City," said Mayor Clara Brugada at a press conference. Mexico hosted its first F1 race in 1963 and has been present on the calendar every year since, except for 2020 due to the pandemic. The race in Mexico is part of F1’s plans to reduce travel by scheduling consecutive races in the same regions of the world. This year, it is part of a series of four races in the Americas, in October and November. The others are in São Paulo, Las Vegas, and Austin, Texas. “It’s an important day for Formula 1, Mexico is an incredible country, and that’s why we will stay together for the coming years,” said Stefano Domenicali, president and CEO of Formula 1.
